This is for my boyfriend, Lee, who on 4th June 2009 is riding 25,000 miles around the world - Yes, amazing!
I have created this site for my boyfriend Lee who is on his travels around the world. I will also be writing a blog with the messages I receive from him, like an update of where he is and what he has been doing. I think it will be an amazing journey to follow, so please keep reading!
Our Story
We (Lee Rumley & Sarah Walker) met in February 2006 at Wicker Camp where we both trained in Muaythai Boxing. I noticed his smile and his beautiful blue eyes...alright enough already!!! We have been together since March 2006.
In 2007 Lee told me that he wanted to ride his motorbike around the world, I didn't know what to say as the longest he had rode on his motorbike was for two weeks around Europe. I didn't like the thought of us being thousands of miles away from each other and was worried about him falling off, getting kidnapped, or getting lost (Yes - I do have a very active imagination!) I slowly came round to the idea as I knew he really wanted to do it and has since childhood, and Lee would never stand in the way of me doing something that I wanted to do, so therefore I agreed.
A couple of months passed and he had seen another trip with the expedition company he would be going round the world with. The trip was the Paris to Dakar Rally, which was for 3 weeks. Lee mentioned the trip and wasn't sure if I would be happy with it, I said he should go for it as he had never done any off roading or rode for more than two weeks in one trip. Lee went in May 08 and loved every bit of it! Lee rode from Cambridge to the Gambia, sleeping in shall we say, uncomfortable conditions! On his travels he rode across the Sahara Desert, which I think is soo amazing. He saw some spectacular places and it was the start of what is becoming a very passionate hobby. I missed him but the smile I saw, as I anxiously waited at the airport for him, confirmed that I would never be able to stop him achieving his dreams and put an end to that injection of happiness.
We went on an Adriatic tour in September 08 which was brilliant. It was my first time on the back of a bike and I really enjoyed it. I liked riding somewhere new and seeing the beautiful countries, however I did love the luxury hotels at the end of the day. I will leave sleeping in freezing conditions on pieces of sponge with no bath after riding for 10 hours a day to Lee!
It has been so long since he booked the RTW trip that I have actually started to forget that he is leaving me for 4 whole months! It's now the end of January, 5 months away and the feeling that he is actually going is now dawning on me. I'm going to miss him so much but the feeling of admiration and of how proud I am is stopping me from being a total cry baby!
I really hope you enjoy following this amazing journey!
